In December 2024, the City of Wilsonville requested qualifications (RFQ) from talented artist(s) and/or artist team(s) to create a new and engaging public artwork(s) for Boones Ferry Park, a ~15-acre park adjacent to the Willamette River.

The theme for this Public Art Project, “The Essence of the River,’’ pays tribute to the Willamette River that flows through town; a ferry and sternwheeler landing once existed at the current park site. Through the RFQ process, the City sought original artwork(s) that celebrate and pulls inspiration from the river and surrounding natural areas in the park. The artwork(s) should be site-specific and engaging for users of all ages, backgrounds.

An extensive review processes was completed by the Arts, Culture, and Heritage Commission (ACHC) and members from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to select three finalists from among more than 150 responses. These finalists will each be compensated for creating unique design proposals; the selected artist will then be chosen by the ACHC.

Park users and community stakeholders are invited to take a survey (below) that was developed by City staff and the three finalists to gather additional feedback to inform the artists as they craft their original designs. The survey closes on Monday, June 23.
