"Water is life, and clean water means health."

-Audrey Hepburn-

If you have been celebrating Building Safety Month like us, you probably know that building codes and inspections help protect communities from a variety of disasters, such as fires, weather-related events, and structural problems. But did you know that they also help protect our clean drinking water supply? Did you know that there are standards for water efficiency? Did you know that codes and inspections help with swimming pool and backyard safety, which can help prevent drowning?

From plan review to final inspection, our Building Division team takes water safety very seriously. Protecting our water supply helps to protect the public health and safety of our community. Here in Oregon, where it typically rains at least nine months out of the year, it can be easy to take for granted the water we use every day for drinking, washing, bathing, and swimming. However, it is a very important resource that we need to manage responsibly and protect to keep our community safe.

Throughout the month of May, visit the City's Facebook and Instagram pages to see information on building safety topics brought to you by Inspector Bitty. Come back next week to visit our virtual City Hall and learn more about our next Building Safety Month topic, Resiliency. Sustainability. Innovation.
