The City of Wilsonville’s staff and elected officials are committed to engaging in a long-term collaboration with the community to develop meaningful, actionable and sustainable strategies to support a more inclusive Wilsonville.

As a critical first step, we invited community members to participate in a moderated listening session, which provided a forum to speak directly to the Wilsonville City Council, City staff and the Wilsonville Police Department about personal experiences with inclusion and aspirations for a more inclusive Wilsonville. .

This community-led dialogue is helping the City -- in collaboration with the community and DEI facilitator Bill de la Cruz -- identify the community's foremost concerns, establish priorities and develop new strategies. The long-term goal is no less than to ensure that Wilsonville is a place where every resident, worker and visitor feels valued and has an equal opportunity to thrive.

In January, the City Council directed City staff to seat a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee to set the City's DEI strategies and serve as a liaison between City Hall and the Wilsonville community. We invite community stakeholders of every race, ethnic identity, gender, religion, sexual orientation and ability to join the conversation. To develop a successful long-term approach, we have a vital need to hear from people experiencing exclusion and/or who feel under-represented in local government.
