French Prairie Road Pathway Plan
Charbonneau community members have long expressed a desire for better and safer walking, biking, and golf carting options along French Prairie Road. Residents feel that the existing French Prairie pathway is incomplete, too narrow, significantly deteriorated, inaccessible, and does not sufficiently serve the Charbonneau community's needs. Many people must walk in the street on portions of the loop and where there is existing pathway, significant investment is required to keep it in a usable condition.
The French Prairie Road Pathway Plan Project asked Charbonneau residents to help select walking and biking improvements along French Prairie Road to improve the safety and livability of the community. Through several planned events, surveys, and activities, Charbonneau community members provided feedback that informed the development of several pathway options.
The project's goal was to identify a preferred plan from among these options. Unfortunately, a consensus couldn't be reached by community members and the decision to pause the project was made based on feedback to a survey conducted in the spring of 2026.

The City of Wilsonville and Wallis Engineering would appreciate your feedback on possible alternative designs for the French Prairie Road Pathway Project. The design solutions being presented attempt to provide a design solution that meets the following goals/concerns as expressed by the community through the initial outreach in 2024: - The community wants a continuous route for pedestrians and bicycles along the length of French Prairie Road.
- People walking in the roadway mixed with cars is unsafe.
- Something should be done about vehicle speeding.
- The existing pathway isn’t adequate for walkers and has unsafe/difficult sections.
- Protect trees.
- Provide for maintenance access needs.
- Accommodate delivery vehicles for the business community.
- Prepare improvements that are cost-effective and financially achievable.
- Ensure emergency vehicle accommodation.

On March 30, 2026, City engineers and consultants from Wallis Engineering met with Charbonneau Community members to zero in on a preferred option for multi-modal safety improvements along French Prairie Road.
